Napa

Napa was laid out in 1848 by Nathan Coombs on property he acquired from Nicholas Higuerra, owner of the original Spanish land grant. The city flourished during the Gold Rush of the 1850's. Napa is said to have more pre-1906 structures than any other Bay Area city. In the last few decades, it has grown rapidly, and its 70,000 inhabitants today represent more than half the county's population. The city's main street features many fancy shops and boutiques.
